Last night, we arrived in the medieval island town of Korcula, Croatia. Legend says that Marco Polo was born here in 1254 and a more recent legend says that Beyonce and Jaz-Z were just sailing by last week! I've never seen so many luxury yachts in my life. The marinas are stocked with them. You'd think we arrived in the French Riviera by the size of the boats, but the town of Korcula itself isn't ritzy or glamorous—it's just right.
One of my favorite things about traveling is staying in Airbnbs and noting their different decor, layouts and style. Our last Airbnb had everything dialed in except for the lack of hot water in the kitchen faucet, but we quickly remedied that with an electric tea kettle.
Our new Airbnb is above a cute restaurant overlooking the sea and definitely has a lot of character. They weren't kidding when they said you enter the apartment through a restaurant! We walk through the restaurant kitchen, their storage room and up winding stairs to our apartment on the third floor. We pass an elderly Croatian woman who always has her door wide open with the TV on, morning and night. Upon the night of our arrival, she kept yelling at us as we entered and exited our place. At first, we thought she was angry but then realized she was trying to help explain the hallway light situation. Unfortunately, we cannot understand one thing she is saying. :(
We do not have hot water in this kitchen either, nor in the bathroom sink. The shower is hot, though. Oh, wait, there is no shower! Just a bathtub and shower hose, but no curtain. Hmmm... wifi and a washer were our only Airbnb search requirements so far, but it looks like we have to add hot water to the list!!! Our wifi is borrowed from the radio station across the alley so we all have to hug the dining room window to connect. Luckily, we did an extra day of online school before we left Dubrovnik.
Oh, and our place comes with not one, but two professional-grade meat slicers. It looks like we can make quite the sandwich for lunch! Clint has been missing his mustard for sandwiches, burgers and sausages here. There is none to be found anywhere.
Other than lacking mustard and some hot water, we are all just fine!
And the Finks are off! I am SO happy you are able to go adventuring during this madness. Croatia looks absolutely stunning.
