Day 198 - Bittersweet

Like Andy Dufresne, we have found our last destination to be in the idyllic beach town of Zihuatenejo. You heard me right; it's our final stop on the Fink4 World School Adventure!

You may remember this Mexican beach town from the blockbuster hit ‘Shawshank Redemption’.

We have been to Zihuatenejo a few times before, so we thought this would be a fitting place to say our farewell to living abroad. It would be an easy, relaxing spot filled with familiarity, good restaurants and scenic views. Our visit turned out to be more familiar than we anticipated because the condo we rented happened to be in the same building that our last condo was when we visited three years ago! The same friendly security guard, Carlos, greeted us as we walked up to the gate.

180° views from our bedroom. I could just lie here all day!

Zihuatenejo is really a great little Mexican haven because it's just the right size, it hasn't exploded with tourism (yet!) and is situated along a sweeping bay, so there are water views galore.

We have had more conversations with strangers here than anywhere on our trip combined. Our small condo complex is at a third occupancy right now with its Canadian and Californian owners. It's been our daily afternoon routine to cool off in the pool and chat with the lively Snowbirds.

Soaking in as much Vitamin D as we can.

Just arrived in town and eating at our favorite restaurant, Any's. Our friend, Isreal, who we have kept in touch with after he waited on us here years ago was standing at the entrance.

Isreal and his girlfriend Alyssia took us to their favorite beach for a tamale picnic and a swim.

Just walking by the market midday in the 84° heat and stumbled upon these unrefrigerated piles of meat.

Just walking to dinner and stumbled upon this Latin dance class. I wanted to join in!

Spotted this gem one night and had to stop—a new outdoor hipster food court.

As our trip is coming to an end, our minds are filled with various emotions: excitement and giddiness to see our loved ones and feel the comforts of home and sadness for ending the thrill of life on the road... it's bittersweet, bittersweet. #sigh#
