Day 20 - Mud Therapy

Today, was a great day! Not because we spent the day at the beach, but because there was not one sibling spat, complaint or bad attitude from any family member the whole entire day!! We have to celebrate these small victories!!

We made it through a full school session without any resistance, not one complaint from the kids about writing in their daily journals and no one picked on each other. I think it is safe to say Austin and Kate actually enjoyed each other's company all day! As Clint was filming us joking around at dinner, our teenager said, "I don't want any video of me having fun."

We went to Queen's Beach, Croatia's longest sandy beach known for its medicinal mud. Good times were had all around as we covered ourselves in the gritty, black mud and laughed lots while each of us led the family in a PE activity of their choice.

FACT: Tradition has it that the wife of the first Croatian king, Tomislav, was especially attracted by the beach's beauty and would often visit, hence the name Queen's Beach. For centuries, it has been used to treat different rheumatic disorders, sciatica, arthritis, skin diseases and infertility in women. Every year, thousands of people, many of whom have alleviated or completely cured their diseases, visit Queen's Beach. Therapy typically lasts 10-20 days. Each day the impaired area is coated with a thin layer of mud, then you lay down on the beach and dry the mud in the sun for approximately 40 minutes. The sun plays an important factor in the process. After, you wash it in the warm shallow sea.

We met two different people in the last two days who know someone whose doctor wrote them a prescription for mud therapy. Their health insurance paid for their trip and accommodations to the beach for the treatment!
