One thing we noticed immediately upon our arrival to Croatia was the abundance of cats. Not being cat people (soon to be a dog family!), we were at first put off a little, but these furry critters are so darn cute! They aren't scrawny, skittish alley cats, but silky, friendly felines that look like they are well fed, making us wonder if they have loving owners and are just free to roam around town at their leisure. Cats can be found around every corner and spotted napping on the steps of ancient ruins and restaurant doorways. In the last three weeks, we've only seen half a dozen dogs at most and they were all little lap dogs. Back home, more people seem to have dogs than not, so this was very surprising to us.
Fast forward to our current place in Rovinj, an hour and a half from the Italian border, we have found the dogs! Now it's reversed. Only two cats have crossed our path in the last four days, but we see dogs of all sizes daily here. Kate squeals with delight every time she sees one and usually brings up how much she misses her dog BFF, Lucy, at home.
